Individuals with hearing loss understand how isolating it can be to have this sense diminished. It can feel like being a visitor in a foreign country whose language you do not speak. So much vital information is shared by general announcements like in the classroom setting, at the office and while traveling. So much of the information we rely on for avoiding danger, uncomfortable social interactions or not missing out on opportunities for economic growth is received by auditory announcements. Reduction in hearing often leads to a reduction in information absorption and social connections. Studies have shown a correlation between hearing loss left untreated and cognitive decline. The good news is that in the 21st century we have more often than not, the technology to help those with hearing loss. We want people to understand just how absolutely crucial hearing care is to every aspect of life. We want people suffering from hearing loss to understand that more often than not, their suffering does not have to continue.
